A chilling terror plot aimed at a major UFC event near the White House was stopped before it could unfold, and federal officials say the alleged mastermind was an illegal immigrant who overstayed his visa more than two decades ago.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, 31-year-old Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, a Mexican national, allegedly organized and directed a planned attack against the UFC Freedom 250 event, which was scheduled to draw thousands of attendees, including President Donald Trump and other high-profile officials.
Federal authorities say Alvarez was arrested on June 14 after an FBI-led investigation uncovered what officials described as a coordinated plan involving explosive drones, mass panic, and a follow-up sniper attack.
DHS did not mince words.
“The alleged RINGLEADER of the failed terror attack targeting UFC Freedom 250 is an ILLEGAL ALIEN,” the agency stated.
Officials say Alvarez entered the United States on a tourist visa that expired in 2001 and never left. Despite remaining in the country unlawfully, he later received protection under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly known as DACA.
The FBI says the plot was uncovered just days before the event.
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, agents became aware of the threat on June 10 and quickly coordinated a multi-state operation involving federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. The result was the arrest of five suspects and the disruption of what investigators believe could have been a catastrophic attack.
Details emerging from the investigation paint a disturbing picture.
One suspect reportedly told investigators the group intended to target “capitalist elites,” billionaires, and politicians connected to pro-Israel political donations. Authorities allege the plan called for explosive-laden drones to strike nearby buildings, triggering chaos among the crowd. As attendees fled, a sniper team would allegedly exploit the confusion to carry out further attacks.
Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow described the reported plan as “horrifying,” noting that investigators believe the attack was designed to maximize casualties through panic and confusion rather than relying solely on explosives.
The arrests may not be the end of the story.
Federal investigators are reportedly examining more than 20 additional individuals who may have connections to the alleged conspiracy. Authorities have not yet announced whether additional charges or arrests are forthcoming.
The case is likely to intensify an already heated national debate over immigration enforcement, border security, and vetting procedures. Critics are pointing to the fact that the alleged ringleader remained in the United States for decades after his visa expired and later received legal protections despite his unlawful status.
For now, federal officials are emphasizing a different point: the attack never happened.
Because investigators found it first.
