For years, E. Jean Carroll was treated by much of the media as the woman who brought Donald Trump to justice.
Now, she finds herself under investigation by the Department of Justice.
According to reports, federal prosecutors have launched a criminal probe into whether Carroll committed perjury during testimony connected to the civil lawsuits that resulted in massive judgments against President Donald Trump.
The investigation, reportedly being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago, centers on statements Carroll made under oath during the legal battles that produced more than $88 million in combined judgments against Trump.
The development marks a dramatic twist in one of the most politically charged legal sagas of the last decade.
For years, Carroll’s allegations dominated headlines, generated endless television coverage, and became a centerpiece of efforts to portray Trump as morally and legally disqualified from public office. While juries found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation in civil court, the former president has consistently denied the allegations and maintained that Carroll’s story was false.
