Hillary Clinton is looking for interns, and one particular qualification in the job posting has the internet doing a double take.
The Office of Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking fall interns to work in New York City from September 9 through November 13, 2026. The unpaid position involves assisting Clinton’s staff with a variety of projects.
But it was one line in the posting that immediately attracted attention: applicants should possess a ‘high level of professionalism and discretion.’
Given the Clinton family’s history with White House interns, social media users wasted little time with the jokes.
‘I wonder if Monica Lewinsky is available. She was a real team player!’ one commenter wrote.
‘Who the hell would sign up for that job???’ another asked.
Another simply wrote, ‘I value my life. Pass.’
The jokes are an obvious reference to former President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, who was a 22-year-old White House intern when their relationship began.
The scandal ultimately contributed to Clinton’s 1998 impeachment by the House of Representatives on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice stemming from his testimony about the Lewinsky relationship. The Senate later acquitted him on both charges.
Hillary Clinton has also faced criticism over how she characterized the affair years later. In a 2018 interview, she rejected the suggestion that her husband should have resigned and argued that the relationship did not constitute an abuse of power because Lewinsky was an adult at the time.
That history made the word ‘discretion’ irresistible ammunition for online commenters.
And Hillary apparently isn’t the only Clinton looking for help.
According to the New York Post, Bill Clinton’s team at the Clinton Foundation is also seeking an intern to assist with special projects.
The Clinton Foundation has itself been a source of political controversy over the years, particularly regarding donations from foreign governments and entities. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly attacked the foundation for accepting money connected to countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
None of that, of course, has anything to do with the qualifications of whoever ultimately lands the new internship.
But when the Clinton office asks prospective interns to bring a ‘high level’ of ‘discretion’ to the job, the internet was never going to let that wording pass quietly.
