President Donald Trump dropped a bombshell Tuesday, claiming newly discovered information about the 2024 attempt on his life raises fresh questions about the FBI’s handling of the investigation.
Trump went further, alleging the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a “Democrat Plot” designed to remove him from the 2024 presidential election.
“By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago?”
Trump also took direct aim at former FBI Director Christopher Wray, accusing the bureau under the Biden administration of failing to properly investigate Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old gunman who opened fire on Trump’s July 13, 2024 rally.
Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed Tuesday that the FBI has uncovered new information concerning Crooks and his background, although he did not publicly reveal what investigators discovered. Previous federal investigators concluded Crooks acted alone and did not establish ties between him and a political organization.
The renewed scrutiny comes as federal records are revealing previously undisclosed details about Crooks.
According to documents reviewed by Fox News, Crooks used the alias “Bob Dole” to receive packages before the shooting. His father told investigators that Crooks would retrieve packages bearing the alias before his father returned home from work. The records also say an unidentified donor paid for Crooks’ cremation after he was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper.
Crooks’ motive remains unresolved more than two years after the attack. The records reportedly show that even his family was stunned by what happened and could offer investigators little explanation for why he targeted Trump.
The attack itself came within inches of killing the then-presidential candidate. Trump was wounded in the right ear when Crooks fired from the roof of a building outside the rally’s security perimeter.
Former firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed while shielding his family from the gunfire. Rally attendees David Dutch and James Copenhaver were also wounded.
The latest disclosures have renewed demands for answers about Crooks, the investigation and the security failures that allowed an armed gunman to reach a rooftop with a clear line of sight to Trump.
What the newly discovered information ultimately shows remains unknown. But Trump is making clear that, more than two years after Butler, he considers the investigation far from over.
